My first class at the London Jewellery School!

I'm so excited to share with you my experience on my first class taken here at the  London Jewellery School! My day was full of amazing moments and unforgettable experiences!

Things you could make

I have always wanted to take a class in jewellery making so I couldn’t wait to get going! At first, I was nervous and I can relate to anyone who may be feeling the same about joining their first class. I didn't know what to expect and after the first five minutes, I knew I was where I belonged.

My class was the Beginner's Silver II where I learned how to make three pieces of silver including a silver domed ring, earrings and a pendant. I learnt the art of soldering and how to solder multiple pieces together. I also learned how to dome and form silver as well as creating texture to my pieces.

One of my favourite parts was learning the bench skills into becoming a jeweller! Learning the fundamental skills on the bench was an amazing experience that I can now take with me to practice at home. Some of the bench skills I learnt included: piercing, filing, soldering, sanding and polishing.

Tutor Guidance

My tutor for the day was Stelios and what an amazing jewellery tutor he was! He was very friendly and informative about what we had planned for the day ahead. Stelios is a fantastic jewellery designer and maker with numerous and incredible accomplishments that keep growing throughout his jewellery career. Stelios has already participated in several international exhibitions. His teachings made me feel confident to work towards further development for my work and it made me feel excited to be part of such an amazing journey!

Although it is highly recommended to complete the Beginners Silver I, if you have some Silversmithing experience, then you can go straight to Beginners Silver II.

Not only did I take home a beautiful ring, a pair of earrings and a pendant, but for me, I took away so much more. I learned valuable lessons for what a jewellery bench consists of and how to use one (very useful!) I experimented with silver and the many aspects that create beautiful texture and effects. My knowledge has expanded SO much within silver and jewellery itself. I was surrounded by interesting students who each had their own story to tell as well as a wonderful tutor who also had an impressive background in jewellery designs. Not to mention the staff at the London Jewellery School have been incredible!

Most importantly, I took home with me a new beginning to a new adventure. I stepped out of my comfort zone and began a journey that will stick with me forever. I found out how much I loved jewellery and what it meant for me and what it feels like to belong. Challenging myself creatively has taught me how far I can push myself and what I'm capable of!

This time last year, I was at University studying art and design. My time during University felt as though I was living somebody else's life and somebody else's dream. All I knew is that it wasn't my own. Since a young age, the arts had always been a great passion of mine, and although I had always been more of a 'hands-on' type of person, I never gave University a thought.

With my miniature obsession (an actual thing!) I found polymer clay and started to make miniature food and figurines. At first, it was for fun, but soon I started selling my work online and at craft shows. I figured I could make those pieces into jewellery and from there, my love for jewellery kept growing and it has never stopped. I took it upon myself to follow my dreams and reach for my goals. My experience has made me realise that doing what you love, truly brings you the world of happiness.
